Back Pain Treatment in Parkland

Back pain has a way of taking over your whole day. Lifting your little one out of a car seat or sitting through a long meeting suddenly feels like a negotiation. Whether the ache sits low or between your shoulder blades, you don’t have to wait it out.

NEW PATIENTS

Your Spine Works as a Team

Your lumbar spine (the lower section) carries most of your upper body’s weight, while your thoracic spine (the mid and upper section) connects to your ribs and provides stability.

When one part of your spine feels stiff, nearby muscles may work harder as you move. Sometimes, a lumbar disc irritates a nearby nerve, sending pain into the buttock or leg. This can cause sciatica.

Long Drives, Laptops, and Weekend Projects Add Up

Back discomfort can start suddenly or build over time. Everyday habits, injuries, and other factors may play a part, including:

  • Sitting for hours at a desk or in traffic on the Sawgrass Expressway
  • Hunching over a laptop, tablet, or phone
  • Lifting with your back instead of your legs

Stiff Mornings, Nagging Knots, and Aches That Travel

Lower back pain can be a dull ache or a sharp catch when you bend, often stiffest first thing in the morning. Pain, tingling, or numbness that runs into the buttock or leg can point to nerve irritation.

Pain higher up the spine often feels like a tight band across the shoulder blades or a pinching spot that flares when you twist or breathe deeply. It may also climb into your neck.

When Heating Pads and Stretching Stop Helping

If pain lasts more than a week or two, keeps coming back, or gets worse, schedule an exam. Contact a medical provider promptly if it wakes you at night, follows a significant injury, or comes with fever or unexplained weight loss. Seek emergency care right away for new loss of bladder or bowel control, numbness in the groin, or new or worsening leg weakness. Call 911 for back pain with chest pressure or shortness of breath.

Gentle Adjusting and Decompression To Address Where You Hurt

Your first visit with Dr. Joseph Bogart, D.C., Dr. Nina Hersch, D.C., or Dr. Blake Tishman, D.C., starts with your history and a thorough exam. We’ll explain what we find in plain language before recommending care.

For lumbar pain, we may recommend Laser Disc Decompression, or Cox® Flexion-Distraction, which uses a special table to guide slow, controlled movement through the lower spine. For the thoracic spine, Koren Specific Technique® (KST) offers options to adjust you while seated or standing, depending on your exam findings and comfort.
For neck or upper back pain, we may recommend Laser Disc Decompression, Koren Specific Technique® (KST) which is a form of adjusting you while seated or standing, depending on your exam findings and comfort, without the “cracking” sound.
Prefer no popping? The ArthroStim® instrument and Activator Methods® offer gentle, low-force options. We’ll also share simple stretches for home and work.
